This article is inspired by a conversation from the Magdalene Interview Series featuring Anumeha Gupta, Ayurvedic wellness counselor and energy healer, and Melisa Keenan, a nine-time international and USA Today bestselling author. Together, they explore Ayurveda, the Divine Feminine, healing, and how ancient wisdom can support modern life.

Healing Begins With Understanding Yourself
When many people hear the word Ayurveda, they think of herbs, spices, or discovering their dosha. While these are important parts of the tradition, Ayurveda offers something much deeper.
Often translated as the "science of life," Ayurveda is a holistic system that teaches us how to live in harmony with ourselves and the natural world. Rather than focusing only on treating illness, it encourages us to understand what creates balance before imbalance becomes disease.
One of the first things I learned when studying Ayurveda was that healing isn't about finding the perfect diet or routine. It's about understanding yourself.
Each of us has a unique constitution, influenced by the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. These elements shape how we digest food, respond to stress, sleep, think, and move through life. This is why Ayurveda doesn't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to health.
Instead of asking, "What's the healthiest choice?" Ayurveda asks, "What's healthiest for you?"
That shift invites us to become more aware of our own needs rather than constantly comparing ourselves to others.

Healing Involves the Body, Mind, and Spirit
One of the most meaningful lessons Ayurveda offers is that true healing involves every part of who we are.
The physical body certainly matters. Nourishing food, restorative sleep, movement, and daily routines all play an important role in supporting health.
Yet Ayurveda also recognizes the impact of our emotional wellbeing.
- Stress can affect digestion.
- Grief can leave us physically exhausted.
- Anxiety can disturb our sleep and make it difficult to feel grounded.
Our emotional experiences don't stay in the mind. They influence the body as well.
During my own journey, I realized that healing also meant becoming more aware of my thoughts, emotions, and the patterns I had carried for years.
Ayurveda also includes a spiritual dimension of healing. Through practices such as meditation, prayer, gratitude, and quiet reflection, we create space to reconnect with something greater than ourselves.
Whether that connection is expressed through faith, nature, or stillness, it reminds us that healing includes caring for both our inner and outer lives.

Finding Balance in a World That Never Stops
Modern life often encourages us to keep doing more.
Many women spend their days caring for others, meeting deadlines, solving problems, and carrying responsibilities that rarely slow down.
Eventually, the body begins asking for rest.
One of the most transformative teachings I received from my teacher, Mother Maya, was understanding the balance between masculine and feminine energy.
- The masculine supports action, structure, and achievement.
- The feminine encourages intuition, creativity, compassion, rest, and receiving.
Both are important.
Healing comes from learning when to act and when to pause, when to lead and when to listen.
For many of us, creating that balance begins with something surprisingly simple: giving ourselves permission to slow down.

Learning to Trust Your Inner Wisdom
Ayurveda teaches us to observe not only the world around us but also the wisdom within us.
This inner knowing is often described as intuition.
When I reflected on my own life during the interview, I remembered experiences from childhood that made much more sense years later.
There were moments when I somehow knew which exam questions would appear. At the time, I thought it was coincidence. Looking back, I recognize those experiences as early glimpses of intuition.
Many of us have had similar moments.
- Perhaps you've sensed that something wasn't right before you could explain why.
- Perhaps you've felt drawn toward a decision that later proved to be exactly what you needed.
Intuition doesn't usually arrive as a dramatic moment.
More often, it speaks quietly.
As we slow down and become more present, we become better at recognizing that gentle inner guidance.

Why Ancient Wisdom Still Matters Today
Although Ayurveda originated thousands of years ago, its teachings remain remarkably relevant.
Today's world moves quickly, yet many of us continue to struggle with stress, burnout, anxiety, and disconnection.
Ayurveda reminds us that health is created through the small choices we make each day.
It encourages us:
- To eat with awareness
- To honor rest
- To care for our emotional wellbeing
- To nurture our spiritual lives
Most importantly, it reminds us that healing is about returning to the balance that already exists within us.
